he elements of its rhetorical situation
audience(music industry, music listeners who may listen to cold play and the people who already listen to cold play)
purpose(to show that cold play is a whiny band of self pity)
context
topic(how much cold play sucks, basically the authors dislike for cold play and how he believes they are whiny and full of self pity)
author(Jon Pareles, a guy who hates cold plays music about self pity and the sound of the singers voice)
He calls cold play the most insufferable band of the decade. Stating that the singers voice made him wish he did not know English. The music full of self pity, lust anger and greed stating that their is nothing wrong with using them to spur on song writing but with cold play you get all of them.
ethos pathos and logos- i can not read far enough in to this article to get this information with my already strong dislike for Cold Play and my growing contempt for this author it makes this impossible to read fully as it has already given me a head-ache.
objections.
Complaints- he seemed to not get his point across well enough he tried to hard to make it an art piece and it turned me off as a reader. The only reason i got past most of the second page was because it was assigned to me. After getting that far I've grown to hate the writer more than i hate cold play at this point.

chap5 is about rhetorically thinking, how to write an rhetorical analysis and what to look for in your target of the argument, to pick out elements that stand out. It goes into examining arguments on ethos, pathos and logos and what to look for in each of them. also has a guide in back of chapter about writing rhetorical analysis.
chap6 structuring argument, is all about the Toulmin argument and it also does go a little beyond it. It goes on about how claims are what begins arguments but the claim is nothing with out evidence and reasons to give the claim substance. It also talks about qualifiers putting limits on claims to limit responsibilities in an argument.
chap8 arguments of definition, describes the different types of definitions, slandered, operational and by example. and how to make a claim and argument on those definitions.

If i could interview some one it would be the manufactures of ethanol and e-85. I would like to ask them what it takes to make the ethanol energy wise and if it is really an improvement over normal gas. I would also ask if there was any other way to produce the fuel.I would also like to interview a researcher about the effects of the different fuel on the environment both to wild life and to humans. Are their any forms of pollution that this fuel produces more of?
d5hw1
Chap.6 is about finding sources through printed sources. these sources are library stacks, books and periodicals. It also talks about the types of Bibliographies and how to use them to find other sources. they can be found in either the reference room or the stacks. chap. seven goes into interviews and field research. How to plan an interview and whom to interview. Then it tells us how to decide if we should conduct a survey who to survey and how to interpret the results.

Goes through just about all types of ways to find information online. it goes through just about everything that is needed to do research online.
How to read critically, teaches you what to look for when reading, how to skim and how to find key ideas.it tells you to highlight text write in the margins. it tell you to ask certain questions to see if the research is relevant to my research.
evaluating sources tells you to question the author, publisher, timeliness and comprehensiveness. Questioning their relevance and their biased to see if there was any motives that would of swayed their writing to to be one sided

This is a short but good article basically a question and answer segment. It finial gave me a decent answer about fuel economy. But it is too short to pull much information from.

this is an article about the unfulfilled promises of bring more e85 gasoline to Florida. It was promised to bring ethanol to many people but they have seemed to fail to meet it by the date they promised. Make you wonder if it is possible to produce this fuel or if it is even possible to transport what was the reason they could not fulfill their promises. Could be a major setback.
"Down on the farm.(In the News)(Brief article)." American Scientist. 95. 4 (July-August 2007): 317(1). Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center. Thomson Gale. Mesa Community College. 14 Sep. 2007.
Interesting a fuel that has been called a cleaner burning fuel is not cleaner in all respects. It is said that if we converted to this fuel we would have more asthma and create more ozone related mortality. This brings the question is it still worth it. The article still says it does remove some pollutants but how important are those pollutants.
"Lower price of e85 fuel catches consumers' attention." Kansas City Star. (May 23, 2005): NA. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center. Thomson Gale. Mesa Community College. 14 Sep. 2007.
This article goes somewhat in depth about price and why ethanol is somewhat cheaper. It turns out there is a tax break of about 50 cents a gallon. Didn’t know there was such a following from the car companies. This will help compare its worth I get to see how much it was compared to gas and the fuel economy difference.

Audiences’ backgrounds; my audience is mainly politicians, lobbyist and anyone who is looking for a better fuel source. Education is usually college graduate or at least some college with little to no technical background in this subject.
The biased against alternative fuels is their price and their reputation for lack of power.
This could open their mind and show them that alternative fuel is already here in many places and coming to many others fairly quickly. It may also show them that it may not ba as expensive as they think.
I want them to support alternative energy which type I don’t know yet but by the end ill find out which looks more appealing.
I want them to want to help the environment. I would like them to abandon their dependence on oil and see what alternative fuels can achieve.
I don’t expect they know much more than they exist. I don’t believe they would know how they work and what they are.
They want to know how to better the environment without hurting their wallet.
They need what type of a change in their life the switch would be and when a more viable option will appear.

My topic involves everyone but it mainly involves researchers that are trying to push one form on technology for their own benefit. Although most of the public is blind to the need for alternative energy there is still a massive amount of the population that want to do something good for our planet or at least less bad for it. The people effective are the ones that would rather keep their money in America instead of sending it overseas or they are the ones that are tired of the smog and pollution associated with gasoline engines. They could use the information to lobby for more funding and they could also use it to convert more people to using alternative fuels.
Its simple everyone should read this. It does not seem like much right now but there is a good chance that one of these forms of energy will keep this country running when oil supply runs so low and the gas prices go so high no one can afford it.

I want to find many new and updated rescores since my question involves a technology that evolves daily. I want to find many journals that tell the basic pros and cons of each power source. Most of my research involves other research papers that have done a study on one form or the other and are unbiased. I am going to rely on web pages a lot to give me enough new information. Newspapers will also give me good and current news on my subject. Most of my searches are going to start on the mesa community college web page.
d3hw2
My question was, What type of alternative fuel would be the best option to lessen our demand on foreign oil? After going thru a few of the research exercises I was left with basically the same question. Then I reached the refine my research question section and it told me some phrases to use and eliminate vague words. I tried and came up with;
It is clear that we cannot rely on foreign oil to sustain our country, would e85 or hydrogen fuel cells provide our country with a better alternative?
It is clear that we cannot rely on foreign oil to sustain our country, would e85 or hydrogen fuel cells provide our country with a better alternative?
d3hw1
Chapter three The first half is mainly how to refine your research question by identifying vague words and making them more direct. It also shows you many more methods on how to create a question and how to make it not be broad. It then gives you a rundown of what a research proposal is.
Chapter four goes tell you to identify the most relevant sites and the type of resources you will use to gather information. It gave me a summary of what each type of information had to offer and how to save them thru email printing, copying, and pasting.
Chapter five is all about searching for sources. It tells you where to search and how to tell which electronic resource is a reliable one

In this week i learned a lot about arguments and how to narrow my topic in the readings. This deadline forced me to start to find research on a paper which i usually wait till the last moment on. And its nice to see where everyone is at and the topics they choose. this week introduced me to directories and reinforced what i learned in 101 about the electronic resources on the mcc site. Being able to read their posts let me see where i was at and if i was going in the right direction. I got to see their perspective on their topics and what type of research they got.

The directory site talks about every aspect of e85 from price to emissions. It goes through how its price is effected by gas and how gas millage is affected. It goes through all the benefits and down falls of the fuel.
It should be a great resource. It may change my stance and may solidify in either direction. It has most information i need about this topic and then some. It may be hard to get the information out of the site due to how simple and plain the site is.
http://e85.whipnet.net/yellow/hydrogen.html
The site found through the web search goes through a little on how the fuel cell works and more on how e85 is. It tells of different ways ethanol can be produced. the site seems to be pro-e85 but still has valuable information on e85 and fuel cells.
Site does not seem like a commercial business but it is defiantly pro e85. but i still will use for the essay because it still has many valid points and valuable information

Alternative Fuel
This topic has my interest due to the rising oil costs and the effect they have on me financially. I used to spend twenty dollars to fill my tank now it has gone up to almost fifty at times causing me to fear the gas station. I cant wait for the day that oil will not be necessary and we will not be dependent on middle eastern countries.
The topic is lived every day it does not take long to find many articles journals and even books on the subject letting me know that everything i believe and heard about the topic is mostly true.
Partly the vast amount of information about it in general. Also how long their taking to develop this technology for the world. e-85 has been released but only a few vehicles can use it and they are exploring other modes to get the fuel but it does not seem like their doing it too aggressively. The fuel cells are even less used and it is harder to find information on them.
It effects everyone in a large way. It affects every thing in price and if it continues every one will have to change their lifestyles forcing some to the streets.
It effects my wallet everyday.

I think I'm going to use the topic about alternative fuels due to how important it is to everyone even if they don't believe it yet. I like this topic because of its broad scope there is no one this wont effect. I used brain storming to narrow it down to which is a more viable option ethanol or fuel cells. The country at some point is going to make the most drastic switch in our recent history, from fossil based fuels to some form of alternative energy.
My topic; Which is a more viable option, eathnol or fuel cells, for americas fuel needs?

d2hw1 Reading Reflection
In Chapter 1 it was about different types of arguments and witch to choose and how to connect with your audience. i liked that it went into detail about each type of argument first time I have ever seen it split up it was very insightful and i feel it will help me a lot in my paper. It had a good review on pathos, ethos and logos and how i have to appeal to all aspects of the reader, the heart, reason and ethical or credibility.
Chapter 20 was a review of MLA for me. It told how to cite sources in text , how to cite the different sources(books, journals, and etc...) and how to create a work cited page.
Chapter 1 Bedford I wish i would of had this in grade school it would of save me a lot of C and D papers. Its a guideline of how to write a paper, how to choose a topic, how to brainstorm and how to manage time. I could of used it years ago and am glad i had a chance to read it.
Chapter 2 Went through narrowing my topic by finding arguments or disagreements inside of topics. Also to see if my topic will achieve my purpose as a writer.
Chapter 10 talks about different methods of taking notes and how avoiding plagiarism.
Chapter 18 goes through MLA again and will be another good resource for it.

Who will pay for care of aging baby boomers?
Clemmitt, Marcia. "Caring for the Elderly." CQ Researcher 16.36 (2006): 841-864. CQ Researcher Online. CQ Press. Mesa community college, Mesa, AZ. 6 Sept. 2007 http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/cqresrre2006101300.
It talks about the rapidly increasing amount of elderly and how the system won't be able to keep up. There is a poor level of care present in the current medical system with poorly paid nurses. They told of one lady that died when she was given her husbands medication for several weeks till she died.Nearly 35% of nursing homes violated food- sanitation standards.
This article has a very grim outlook on the future of elderly health care in this country. Now how can we fix it? Many people suggest universal health care to fix our broken health care system. I believe with the current sate of health care that a universal health care system will not fix the currant one only make it worse. It will funnel more money from the tax payers to the wealthy medical company's who support our government officials. I feel we need to reform the prices of the current medical system before we can even consider a completely new system.
Can renewable fuels lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil?
Bettelheim, Adriel. "Biofuels Boom." CQ Researcher 16.34 (2006): 793-816. CQ Researcher Online. CQ Press. Mesa Community College, Mesa, AZ 6 Sept. 2007
http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/cqresrre2006092900.
This entry is about renewable fuels but mostly ethanol. It talks bout how widely it is used now and what will be necessary to produce it in a large enough scale to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil. IT talks about more efficient ways of producing ethanol.
Will America ever be able to meet its own fuel demands? We consume so much oil it seems in conceivable that we could even come close. Right now the renewable energy we use is about 6%. Over 85% is from other countries. It seems impossible but it is necessary and the route that is closest to start to be used is e85 which is already being used in the Midwest at a larger degree.
Can it survive as an uncensored global network?

The Internet is censored in some states in by limiting the equipment they can use and not allowing broadband in government buildings. And some Internet company's due to pressure by governments already have blocks on their web sites some are restricting people from seeing opposing views.
I think with all of the illegal activity online it should be limited but only for that content. The government should not touch any other aspects of it and they should not take what is said too seriously. But knowing how they are it would never happen.

What do i want from this class?
what do i want from this class? I'm mainly in it because it is required in any course of study. While in it i would like better my self in one of my worst subjects. I want an A but would be happy with a B. I need to do well in this class to show my self that i am able to write a decent essay. It is necessary to know how to write, most classes require some form of an argumentative essay. Doing well in this class would give me the confidence to write about any paper that i will come across in my college career.
deadline #1, HW8, Help
you go in normal order on the syllabus right?
i think i have the blog thing down now. didn't seem like it was working at first. I emailed my blog address to you with my del.icio.us account(cuda49).

and this is number eight
i think i have all execpt the reflection done
Just glancing at the handbook it seems a little overwhielming after reading it does not look too bad.

I am jeff fitzwater
I work and go to school full time. Im going to go thru the nursing program(its one of the few things that will pay me atleast what i need to make it and it might be fun) but my goals for right now are unknown.I work at costco and am starting to get tired of it that is alot of the reason im back in school. I want to find a career that i like and won't have a fear of being downsized.
